Deckard Cain: Hero of the Storm - Really?

So, I fully realize this will not be a popular viewpoint (if anyone bothers to read this) but I don't think the (until recently) last of the Horadrim should join Heroes of the Storm.  At least not as a playable character.  Stay awhile and listen.

This isn't to say that he should have no part in Heroes at all- he totally should, but in a way that matches his character.  Blizzard is working on new maps, including the first to be based on a specific franchise (as it happens, Diablo) and Cain could be an announcer there or even better, in a Tristram-inspired map.  It would fit nicely with his role of observer and narrator.  Such a map could even have rescuing him as an objective, making a nice call-back to Diablo II.  If the game used items, having him as a shopkeeper would be an obvious choice.

Many would say that's not enough and he deserves to join the fray, especially after his early and somewhat underwhelming death at the hands of Tinkerbell and Maleficent's little sister.
I get it - he's iconic, as much a part of the Diablo franchise as the titular demon lord himself, and I was as disappointed as anyone when he was killed off in Act I of Diablo 3.  Why shouldn't he have a guaranteed spot in the Nexus?

Let me answer your question with a question.  What in the Burning Hells would he actually do?

A lot, actually.  He provides knowledge, items and records what happens in order to give more knowledge and create the basis of almost all the established Diablo lore.  Which also sums up my point in a nutshell - his entire character is essentially a vehicle for the game's lore to be delivered in a fashion that engages the player with the world of Sanctuary.  He occupies a more of a narrator position than hero in the Diablo Universe, and he's great at it.

Blizzard did attempt to give Cain some greater depth with the 2012 novel, Diablo III: The Order by Nate Kenyon (give it a read, it's fun).  It did show that he could think on his feet, do a little magic when backed into a corner and was an all-round survivor.  All of this, while keeping it abundantly clear that he's scholar, not a warrior.

The Heroes team makes a big deal about staying true to the characters it brings into the game, and each of the recently released heroes is profiled in a Developer Insights blog post dedicated to how the most iconic aspects would translate into a MOBA hero brawler.  From what these tells us about the developers' thought process, I don't think Cain would match their criteria for hero material either, Dustin Browder's comments not withstanding.

More importantly, from what we know and love about our favorite Horadrim, would playing as Deckard Cain in Heroes of the Storm really feel like...Deckard Cain?
